Built in 1502, The Cock Horse is a former coaching inn which takes its name from the heavy horse which used to help drag stagecoaches up a steep hill to the next village.
Inside, you'll find a bar and with an inglenook fireplace, which gives the room a snug feel. We also have a restaurant area, offering a range of dishes such as sea bass, rib-eye steak and lamb shanks. Outside, there's a garden with a lawn and two decked areas.
We cater for parties and other events, and we warmly welcome walkers and well-behaved dogs. History buffs can study a list tracing the former landlords back to 1511, and ghost-hunters can try to catch a glimpse of the spirit which some say still haunts the pub, so come over and see us soon!
What our customers have said on TripAdvisor
Hadn't been in the vicinity of this pub since the 1970s but found ourselves passing today, and wanting a drink and lunch, thought we would stop. Staff very welcoming and helpful. We had a drink and my husband had a chilli, which he thought was very good, and I just had a bar snack...all very acceptable. We plan to return for Sunday lunch and bring friends.
Our local pub which always serves lovely home made food of sensible sized portions and very reasonably priced. Great atmosphere and all ways made to feel welcome.
